I have to say, Sailors, that out of all the villains I've seen on the anime series, Prince Diamond is my favorite. Everyone is in love with Darien but decided to be different and take a liking to the fair haired prince. He is pretty hunky in his own right. I love the series the way it is, but this fic is what I think should have happened between Diamond and Wicked Lady. And I know that the "set me free" thing was played out during the Queen Beryl episodes . . . so please forgive me for that but it fits my story! Well, the e-mail address is below. Peace, love, and crescent moon beams! *********************************************************************** Sailor Moon is owned by Naoko Takeuchi, Kodansha Ltd., licensed by DIC, etc. Bottom line: Sailor Moon is not mine and never will be! *********************************************************************** Author: Hitomi-sama E-mail: hitomi-sama@studiounmei.org Rated: PG-13 for a little violence and romance *Precious Gems* A Diamond is Forever (A fanfic-rare as it is-about Prince Diamond) Serena stared at her sweating water glass with a sigh. "I hate dinner parties, they're so majorly boring!" She pouted through frowning pink lips. "Yeah, what a snore." Raye added. "I don't get what's so fun about getting all dressed up!" Mina nodded. "And socializing with a lot of stuffy people. I mean, how many people have asked you if you remember them?" Lita laughed. "Come on, you guys. I think it's fun to see people you haven't seen in a long time. Amy took a sip of punch. "A community ball and dinner party was a really great idea. I think Crossroads should do more activities like this." The scouts were sitting around a table in the first of three rooms that accommodated roughly one thousand people each. The adolescents of Crossroads had decided to fraternize in Hall One, the adults and their young children in Hall Two, and elderly citizens in Hall Three. There were about a total of five hundred people in attendance. Serena tugged at her elbow length pink gloves that matched her sugar pink evening gown. "I can't grab my fork with these things on! How am I supposed to eat?" She examined the sizes of the dinnerware. "Say, which fork am I supposed to use? Do I have a choice or what? This ladylike stuff is way too hard! Who cares about being proper?" "The small fork is for salad. The bigger one is for the main course." Rini said as she politely picked up a small piece of carrot, slid it into her mouth, chewed, swallowed, smiled, and then dabbed at the corners of her mouth with her immaculate white napkin. "What? How do you know that?" Serena asked. "And I thought you hated carrots." "Mommy taught me how to be a polite princess. She said a proper lady should try to finish whatever she can on her plate, even if she doesn't like it. Proper ladies don't announce what they don't like and try not to show it." Rini replied. "What do you know, Rini really is a lady! Look at how she eats." Mina commented. "She's so polite. She even covers her mouth when she laughs." Amy added (FYI: in Japan, covering your mouth when laughing is polite!). Raye smiled. "She doesn't even have a spot or a crumb on her white dress! That's definitely a sign of a lady!" She said. "You're one hundred percent grade A lady material, Rini." Lita announced. Serena narrowed her eyes in jealousy. "I hate to admit it . . . but they're right." Rini smiled and bowed her head. If someone she knew saw her now, they wouldn't even have recognized her. The beautiful pink haired girl was indeed a small lady. "Rini, you are the epitome of a lady." Amy said. The girl smiled and mouthed a silent thanks. She leaned over to Serena and said, "What does 'epitome' mean?" in a soft whisper. Serena laughed and leaned on the table. She pointed at the girl. "Little miss lady here wants to know what epitome means." "Hey, you aren't supposed to ask! It's rude! So is pointing and putting your elbows on the table." Rini retorted. Serena growled. "Ooo . . . knock it off you little bratty know-it- all!" She said glaring at the pink haired girl. "It's hard to believe a terror like you could turn into such an authority on etiquette!" Mina laughed and her orange hair bow which matched her dress bounced merrily. "Maybe you should take lessons from her." Lita covered her giggles with a green gloved hand. Raye turned her attention to her red jewelry in order to keep from cracking up. Amy pushed her blue bowed hair band further back on her head, trying to resist adding something to the conversation. "Good evening ladies." Darien said as he approached the girls. Serena was almost drooling as she turned her attention to him. He was so irresistible in that black tuxedo of his, minus the white mask and top hat. "Darien!" Rini exclaimed. The young man held out a dew kissed rosebud for the girl to take. Rini's eyes were large and danced with delight. "A baby rose for my little rosebud." He said. Serena crossed her arms in jealousy. Before her lips could form her familiar pout, Darien handed her a mature rose bloom. "Of course, a rose for my angel." Serena blushed. "Oh, Darien!" He turned his attention to Rini. His future daughter looked quite regal in her white dress. She looked exactly like Princess Serenity. Darien knelt down and took Rini's hand. "Beautiful Princess Serenity . . . please say you'll allow me the honor of dancing with you?" He asked in a playful yet serious voice. "Oh Darien!" Rini exclaimed in giddy embarrassment. The small girl and the tall young man twirled around on the dance floor. They made quite a cute pair. Rini laughed when finally Darien lifted her off her feet and twirled around with her in his arms. The girl laid her head on his chest and smiled. Her dress hung below her feet. It almost looked like the child was as tall as her future father. It was so precious. So much so that Serena wasn't even the least bit jealous! When the song was over, Darien took Rini back to the table. "That was the best dance! Thank you, your highness!" Darien said with a wink. "Now, my other Princess Serenity . . ." Serena didn't give him a chance to finish before she was in his arms, twirling around the dance floor. The music was so beautiful that the rest of the scouts were also asked to dance by shy blushing boys. "Rini, are you sure you'll be okay if we go?" Mina asked as a blond boy named Scott tugged on her arm, anxiously wanting to dance with her. "I could stay here and keep you company." Amy offered from beside Greg. "I'll be fine. You guys go have a good time." Rini answered. "You sure?" Raye asked, interlacing her fingers between Chad's. "Yeah, go ahead." She answered. "Okay, we'll be back soon. I'm sure you'll pick up a partner in no time little lady!" Lita winked before she was led off by Ken. Rini glanced at the unoccupied table. She felt a lonely sadness creep into her heart as she watched the couples spin around the dance floor, lovingly looking into each others eyes. She felt an overwhelming feeling of grief and sorrow mixed with heartbreak. The little girl had become familiar with it. The pink haired girl watched Darien and Serena hold each other tight. They flew over the dance floor. Darien would occasionally whisper into the blond's ear and she would in turn laugh and kiss him. Rini remembered with more sorrow that at one time she had something like they had. "Oh Diamond, even if the circumstances were the way they were, I still loved you with all my heart." She whispered into the music drenched air. Rini turned her thoughts to Prince Diamond. She thought about the times they shared together. The girl could remember every word he had uttered to her. She had gotten to know him better then anyone had. Diamond wasn't really bad . . . he was a kind and loving man. He was just misguided. She had been too. But they hadn't realized it until it was too late . . . *********************************************************************** Diamond had been having dreams of his ultimate love for some time. A tall slender woman stood in front of the full white moon, her fair hair long and flowing behind her. She was dressed in white royal garments. Diamond saw she belonged to the Serenity family by the crescent moon symbol on her forehead. Only the moon behind her was glowing too brightly and the prince couldn't see the woman's face clear enough to recognize who she was. Just before Diamond awoke, the princess called out to him. "Dearest, set me free. When we meet one day, you'll know. You must set me free." "Who are you? What's your name?" Diamond asked. "I'll always be your . . . R=D1y . . ." Diamond sat on his throne and sighed. Lately he had been convinced the woman was trying to say Ruby. He regarded the image of Neo-Queen Serenity. Was she really the one? But why did she say Ruby? Sure everyone in his family had names of gemstones . . . but, she wasn't apart of his family. Diamond felt pangs of confusion wash over his heart. Neo-Queen Serenity was so beautiful . . . he didn't want to bring himself to believe she wasn't the love of his life. Suddenly, Wise Man appeared in front of him with a beautiful woman. "Diamond, may I introduce the newest servant of the dark crystal. Formerly known as Small Lady but as you can see, no longer small and no longer weak." Wise Man said. "This is Wicked Lady." Diamond was speechless. He regarded the black crescent moon symbol on her forehead with awe. "You were Small Lady?" He asked. Suddenly the image of the princess appeared in his head. The moon wasn't shining as bright and Diamond gasped as he saw the maiden of his dreams wasn't Neo-Queen Serenity, but her daughter! "Dearest, set me free!" He heard the words float though his mind. "It's you, Ruby!" Diamond exclaimed. Wicked Lady blushed as the prince spoke to her. Suddenly a thought struck him. The woman in his dreams wasn't saying Ruby, she was saying Rini! Diamond sensed he was blushing at his faux pas. "As a member of the royal family of Nemesis, you need a fitting name. Do you like it?" He asked, fixing his awkward blunder. "Ruby . . . Ruby the Wicked Lady . . ." She experimented. "Ruby . . . I like it." Diamond took Wicked Lady's hand and kissed it. "Not just Ruby, Princess Ruby." He said in a soft tone. Ruby (sorry, Wicked Lady is too much to write all the time!) found herself blushing again. "Oh prince!" She said half in embarrassment. "Thank you." "Please, it's just Diamond." Wise Man sensed the prince was distracted. "Now, Prince Diamond, lets not forget what we're aiming to do. Now would be the perfect time to return to the past and with Wicked Lady's help (only he still calls her that) we can get rid of the earth while it's still weak and vulnerable." With that, he disappeared. Sapphire walked into the throne room from the pillar he was hiding behind. "Diamond, I don't trust Wise Man. I think he's hiding something." The prince glared at his brother. "What? Rubbish! Wise Man's plan is a good one. Now, I don't want to hear anymore negative comments. Our plan won't work if we all don't trust each other." Diamond replied. "Yes, your highness." Sapphire said through clenched teeth. He turned and regarded the pink haired newcomer. "I'm Diamond's brother, Sapphire." He introduced himself. "I'm Ruby." She replied. "Princess Ruby." The woman added, smiling at Diamond. Sapphire regarded his brother with a raised eyebrow. Sapphire smiled to himself. Hopefully this means Diamond's finally over that idiot Sailor Moon. He thought. That silly crush was leading him in the wrong direction. Maybe Ruby will keep him from making foolish decisions. She's already had an effect on him. He's smiling. I sense something good will come out of this. "It's a pleasure." Sapphire said with a bow. He looked at his brother. "If you'll excuse me, I'll leave you and your princess alone. I've got to make preparations for our journey." Ruby blushed as she stood by the two men, being referred to as Diamond's princess. She felt a warm feeling radiate from her heart and found herself smiling. The woman was flung into silent contemplation. This warm feeling was like nothing she had ever felt before. Did it mean that she was in love with Diamond? And did Diamond love her? Nonsense, they had just met. My greatest dream is to be loved . . . maybe abandoning the loveless world I once lived in will make my dream come true . . . I'll have everything I've ever wanted in this new life . . . It's like I was reborn . . . I'm no longer Rini, now I'm Ruby . . . and they'll pay for driving me away . . . for denying me the love I deserved . . . but what's this feeling? When I look at Diamond, I get a warm feeling in my heart . . . What is it? *** Diamond held Ruby in his strong embrace. She breathed softly and laid her head on his chest. Even through his heavy white shirt she could hear his heart beat. The prince watched her intently. Ruby closed her eyes, looking like she was straining to hear the secrets of his soul that were being told to her by his own heart. He stroked her long pink hair and heard her sigh under his touch. In an incredible amount of time, Ruby had managed to capture his heart. Diamond had never felt so right about anything but Ruby. They were meant to be. When she was near him, Diamond felt like he was under a magic spell. Ruby caused the sun to rise within him, like his entire life before her had been lived in darkness. Diamond felt like he was wrong in his revengeful quest to destroy Earth. Wise Man was manipulating him . . . misguiding him. Just like he had misguided Ruby. Diamond knew as he gazed at the beautiful woman, that Ruby had been meant to exist in the name of goodness with love all around her. Wise Man had tricked her into believing that she was alone. Poor misguided Ruby! Diamond knew that with Neo-Queen Serenity as her mother and the Sailor Scouts as her friends, Ruby would never be far from love. "What do you hear?" Diamond asked Ruby in a whisper. Ruby smiled as she gazed up at him with twinkling red eyes. "I hear your heart skipping and beating and calling my name." Diamond cradled her head with his hands. She reached up and ran her slender fingers through his long silvery hair. "I hear all your love for me." Diamond's violet eyes danced as he came closer to her. Ruby felt his warm sweet breath caress her cheeks. "My heart could never lie to an angel like you." He said, brushing his lips against hers. When they parted, Ruby's cheeks were tinted with a light pink blush. Diamond took her hand in his, gently rubbing the top with his thumb. Ruby rested her head on his shoulder. "Oh, Diamond . . . I feel like all the wrong things that have happened in my life suddenly don't matter now that I'm with you. Like you have the power to make everything right." He smiled. "I feel the same way." Diamond closed his eyes and sighed. The prince drew in a long breath, treasuring the smell of Ruby's perfume. She smelled heavenly. There were so many images that her scent brought to mind. Fresh fallen rain, icy dew, ripe roses, the summer sun, a cool breeze . . . Diamond sighed once more. He felt a determination building within him. The fair haired man decided mentally that he was going to speak with Wise Man. The more time he spent with Ruby, the more he realized how wrong the hooded prophet was. Diamond looked outside his throne room to see a silvery moon far off in the dark night sky. He was held captive of his own thoughts as he gazed at the hypnotic glowing crescent. The prince saw the familiar princess of his dreams call out to him. "Set me free! Please, my love! You must set me free!" When he finally snapped out of his trance, Diamond saw the princess from his dreams asleep in his arms. "Oh my lovely Ruby . . . my beloved princess . . . I will set you free." Diamond vowed in a whisper. He kissed her forehead gently. "I promise I'll set you free." *** Prince Diamond looked at Sailor Moon with honesty shining through his violet eyes. "I don't want to fight you. I've realized that I was wrong in seeking revenge relentlessly." He admitted. Sailor Moon had a look of wide eyed surprise playing on her face. "Serious? You mean, you've changed just like that? I don't have to use my scepter or anything?" She asked in shock. "This has got to be a trap." The prince shook his head. "I can assure you that I'm quite serious. I've realized that Wise Man has been fueling the Negamoon family with anger and hate. I should have listened to Sapphire when he tried to tell me. But every time I looked into Ruby's eyes . . . I could see how wrong it all was. We were all wrong." He paused. "I want to make it all right again." Sailor Moon was still speechless. She never had an enemy change his mind all by himself. It was weird yet rewarding. Diamond and his family had been the first enemies that really weren't evil. They had simply been used. Sailor Moon looked at Prince Diamond and smiled. For the first time she had encountered him, she was able to look at him and see a real living and breathing person. One capable of love, life, and change. Out of the corner of her teary eye, she saw Ruby come up to Diamond and take his hand. "Sailor Moon, please say you will use your Silver Crystal to free Ruby and I of all the energy from the Dark Crystal that the Wise Man has infused us with." Diamond requested as he exchanged smiles with Ruby, who had heard and agreed with every word her beloved had spoken. "I am setting you free, just like I promised." He whispered to Ruby. "You aren't as stupid as I thought, Diamond!!!" Wise Man yelled as he appeared in front of the prince. "So you finally figured out what I was up to." "How could you, Wise Man! Emerald . . . Sapphire . . . me . . . Ruby . . . you used us all! And like an idiot I mindlessly agreed to it all. Well not anymore! I'm not letting you destroy Ruby! I'll see that it ends here!" Diamond growled as he pushed Ruby out of the way and shot a bolt of black energy toward the hooded man. Wise Man disappeared and shot out a pair of spear-like bolts of black energy of his own. They headed straight for Sailor Moon. The pretty soldier gasped and watched wide eyed with tears as she stood paralyzed with fear. The spears raced toward her at breakneck speed. If they hit her, she would be killed and Ruby would have no chance of being set free. Diamond couldn't let that happen. There was an explosion of black energy. Wise Man yelled out in pain as his body shattered like glass and his gray hood dropped to the floor of the throne room and covered his blue orb. Sailor Moon and Ruby both let out muffled screams. Diamond groaned in pain as he fell limply to the floor, his hand covering where the spears of energy had stuck his side. Ruby held Diamond's head in her lap, brushing a cold sweat from his forehead as she began to cry. "Diamond, my love . . . don't leave me, please. I love you." "Oh, Ruby . . ." Diamond said in a hoarse voice. "My love . . . I'm afraid my heart won't be able to speak to you anymore . . . I want you to know that . . . I'll always love you . . . and when I'm gone . . . remember that everyone around you loves you . . . you never were alone . . . you were born into a world of light and love . . . you just happened to be misguided . . . we all were . . . but when I found you I knew . . . I knew that I was just like you . . . never let hate into your heart . . . or it will be too late . . . just like it was too late for me . . . but know that you know . . . I've kept my promise . . . I've set you free . . ." Ruby bent down and kissed Diamond with warm tears falling on his cheeks. "Oh Diamond, I love you so much!" Was all she could choke out. "I love you too . . . I promise . . . I'll find . . . a way . . . back . . . to . . . you . . ." He said as his eyes closed and he was gone. The pink haired woman sobbed over Diamond's empty and broken body. "No! Diamond! Come back! I love you! Don't leave me! Diamond, please don't leave me!!! Diamond!!! DIAMOND!!!!" She screamed in grief. Sailor Moon cried alongside Ruby. The fallen prince had just saved both their lives. No one saw Wise Man's body as the pieces melded themselves back together. When Sailor Moon heard Wise Man's sickening laughter, it was too late to stop him. He pointed his orb at Ruby, black energy leaping out and enveloping the woman. The pretty soldier watched in horror as Ruby's grief-stricken face became icy and emotionless and her tear-filled eyes blank and dark. "Ruby!" Sailor Moon cried out. Wise Man laughed again. "I'm not about to let Diamond ruin my plans!" He said. Sailor Moon shook her clenched fist at the hooded ghost-like man. "What did you do to her?" She asked in anger. "What did you do?!?" "I had to clear her mind of all memories of that silver haired weakling." The deep voice replied. "Diamond isn't going to interfere with my plans . . . even after death!" *** Ruby stood in the middle of the dark gate. Black energy pulsed around them, five posts controlling it like lightning rods. The woman laughed wickedly and curled her lips into an evil smile. "This world will be destroyed and I'm happy to be the one doing it! To get rid of a place where I was alone and unloved." Sailor Moon looked up at the woman with clear blue tear-filled eyes. "But that just isn't true. We all love you. Your mother, your father, the Sailor Scouts . . . and Diamond." The soldier saw a flicker of light dance in Ruby's dark eyes. She had seen it before in Darien when he had been trying to fight off Queen Beryl's brainwashing. She remained motionless, a pained look on her face. It looked as if someone had just walked up to Ruby and slapped her hard. "D . . . Di . . . Diamond?" Ruby stammered. Sailor Moon smiled through her tears. "Yes, Ruby. Prince Diamond. Do you remember him? Diamond of the Negamoon family. You were his princess . . . Princess Ruby. He loved you very much. Do you remember? Do you?" She probed. "I . . . I . . ." Ruby trailed off, searching hard for her lost memories. "Diamond was very in love with you. Remember how he saved us from Wise Man? He gave up everything he had to make sure you were okay. Do you remember? All the love he had for you . . . do you remember that?" Sailor Moon asked. Ruby looked pale. Her emotionless face didn't crack. Sailor Moon sank to her knees in defeat. Suddenly, from beside her, the pretty soldier heard Darien gasp. "Look!" He breathed. Sailor Moon looked up to see one crystalline tear roll down Ruby's cheek. "I remember." She said finally. Sailor Moon took out her Silver Crystal and called upon it to work it's healing magic on Ruby. Wise Man cried out in protest as the powerful Negamoon warrior, Princess Ruby the Wicked Lady, was transformed back into Rini the Small Lady of Crystal Tokyo. The little girl was crying as she hugged all her friends, muttering apologies every moment. She turned to Sailor Moon and hugged her so hard she almost knocked her down. "Oh Sailor Moon! Diamond is . . . gone! He saved us! We have to defeat Wise Man . . . for him!" She exclaimed as she sobbed. Rini gasped as one of her warm tears magically formed into the Silver Crystal of the future. The girl cradled it in her small hands as it's white light pulsed like a heart beat. Her heart beat . . . her mother's heart beat . . . her father's heart beat . . . Diamond's heart beat . . . Rini held the Silver Crystal high above her head. "Wise Man . . . Doom Phantom," she corrected, "how dare you! You used the Negamoon family! You lied to me! Brainwashed me! And you killed Diamond!!! For that you have to pay!!! For Diamond!" She screamed. "DOOM PHANTOM . . ." Sailor Moon yelled. "GO AWAY FOREVER!!!" Rini finished. In a massive explosion of pink light, the hooded prophet was obliterated. "Diamond . . ." The little girl said in a whisper. "Thank you for setting me free, my love!" *********************************************************************** Rini wiped away the tears in her eyes as she recalled each and every moment she had spent with her first love. Diamond had made her feel like no one ever had. He had ultimately sacrificed his own life to make sure she was returned to the way she had meant to be. The pink haired girl felt tears splash onto her white dress as her memories flashed passed her. "He was gone just like that . . ." She whispered through her sobs. "Oh Diamond . . . I wish . . ." Rini trailed off, unable to finish as she placed a cloth napkin over her reddened face and cried. *Ladies don't cry in public.* She heard her mother say. It didn't matter. The man she had loved most in the world was gone. Her prince who had loved her back. Rini's fairy tale dream come true . . . shattered quicker than a blink of an eye. *Once upon a time there was a handsome prince.* Her mother's bedtime stories floated back to her. Half asleep in a hazy dream world, Rini listened to tales of princes who heroically saved their lady-loves. Someday, Rini . . . you'll find a prince of your own. "Oh mommy . . . I thought he was the one . . . the prince you always said I'd find . . ." The girl said as her shoulders rhythmically bounced up and down as her chest racked with sobs. Rini just hadn't been the same after Diamond had died. *I promise . . . I'll find . . . a way . . . back . . . to . . . you . . . * . Diamond's vow repeated itself in Rini's head. "Oh Diamond, if only you could . . ." She said. "If only you could." "Princess?" Asked a young voice from behind her. "Princess?" It said again. Rini turned around slowly to meet the face of a twelve year old boy. He was dressed in white with royal blue flourishes on his shirt and a deep purple cape fashioned on his shoulders with clear gemstones. The boy's violet eyes smiled as he tossed a bit of his long silvery bang out of his way. The little girl was too stunned for words. Could it be? Could it really be him? Was she imagining things? "Diamond?" She managed to whisper. "My darling, Ruby." He replied with a little bow. Rini turned pale. "What? . . . How? . . . What's going on? . . . I thought . . ." "In the future, Nemesis doesn't exist. Because of that turn of events, I was able to be born five years before you were." Diamond explained. "Neo-Queen Serenity, your mother, sent me here to be with you. She said you'd need a prince to dance with you." Rini smiled with joyful tears in her eyes. "How do you know about your former life . . . about us if you didn't live that life?" She asked. "When the Queen chose to send me here, she also gave me the memories of my tragic life in the Negamoon family. When I died, all my memories . . . my soul . . . was transferred and contained within the Silver Crystal. Your love for me caused that." He explained. Rini jumped into the young man's arms. "Oh Diamond! I love you!" She exclaimed. Diamond looked down into the little girl's clear sparkling eyes. "Oh Ruby . . . my love . . . you're finally free!" He said. "I never thought I'd see the day." The young prince kissed the little girl. Rini blushed as they parted and was led by Diamond onto the dance floor. She saw all of her friends twirl by her in a blur. They all looked at her, curious as to who her dashing young man was. Diamond took the girl in his arms and they began to twirl amidst the tranquil music. Diamond watched as Rini laid her head on his chest as they floated on the dance floor. "Go ahead and listen, my dearest Ruby . . . my heart has missed you and has an endless number of secrets it's been longing to tell you." The End Did you enjoy that? Hopefully you did and are salivating for more. "What happens to Diamond and Rini, Hitomi?!!?" you ask. You pause and wait anxiously for my answer: this is the beginning of (hopefully) a massive series called "Precious Gems" so watch for the sequel, "Skipping Stones"!
